When I first started Bitesize Bakehouse, I had no idea quite where it would take me. What began as a flour-dusted hobby has grown, changed, paused, and pivoted more times than I could ever have imagined.

In the Beginning

Bitesize Bakehouse was born out of a hobby — well, an obsession really. I’ve been baking since I left university, steadily building up my own personal style and a tried-and-tested list of favourites since way back in 2009 (shhh!).

Back then, I started a small blog to capture my baking experiments. Baking was - and still is - a labour of love. It can take hours to create something beautiful, and then it’s devoured in minutes! That little blog became a way to preserve those creations, to document my progress, and to share the joy (and sometimes chaos) of the process.

It was also a creative outlet while I was working in a corporate operations role — a space where I could make, play, and dream when the day job left little room for either.

But over time, baking became more than just a creative escape. Friends, colleagues, and family started asking me to bake for them, and, after a fair bit of self-doubt and a long list of excuses (“Who would pay me?” “I didn’t go to culinary school!”), I finally took the leap.

When I fell pregnant with my first child, something shifted. I wanted a different life — one where I could create, grow, and balance family and work on my own terms. Maternity leave gave me the window I needed to test the waters properly, rather than balancing orders after work and in my spare pockets of time. The fire was lit, and Bitesize Bakehouse began to take shape for real.

Somewhere in the Middle

From blog to business: that’s when things really started to roll. I launched 'officially' in 2019 and haven’t stopped learning since. There were wedding cakes, postal marshmallows, dessert tables, pop-ups, and wholesale orders. There were rebrands, website redesigns, late nights, and early mornings.

Over time, I started to understand where I fit - focusing on doing a few things really well instead of trying to do it all. The bespoke buttercream cakes, handmade marshmallows and rich chocolate treats became my core range, all created with care and a commitment to sustainability. Organic, free-range, locally sourced ingredients, recyclable packaging, and thoughtful production became the backbone of everything I did.

I worked with incredible clients - couples, event planners, and corporate brands - and loved every minute of seeing something I’d built from my kitchen table take on a life of its own.

The Here and Now

After more than seven years of running Bitesize Bakehouse, something new began to bubble away under the surface. It took me a while before I realised that what I loved most wasn’t only the baking itself, but the building of the business -the systems, the operations, the creativity that goes into turning an idea into a thriving business.

I’ve always had the itch to create and lead my own projects. Baking was simply the first form that passion took as my confidence crossed paths with an action plan to give it a go. Now, that same drive is steering me in a new direction: one where I can help others find clarity, and structure in their own creative ventures.

What’s Next

Bitesize Bakehouse is evolving. Alongside workshops and masterclasses where I aim to support you on your own baking journey through this brand, I’m opening up a new chapter: Alma Cara Studio — practical, grounded consultancy for creatives, makers, and small businesses who want to move forward with confidence and clarity.

It feels like the natural next step now that it has all bee thought through but it taken a while to percolate! I am blending my background in operations and business management with the lived experience of running a creative business from scratch.

There will still be recipes to share here, stories to tell, and maybe the odd batch of marshmallows to gift... but now, the focus is on helping others build something brilliant of their own.

So here’s to the next chapter of Bitesize Bakehouse and a new beginning for Alma Cara Studio - still full of creativity, curiosity, and community… just with a slightly different flavour.

Thank you for being here (whether you’ve been following since the blog days or just discovered me now) I’m so glad you’re part of the BB story!
